Former Australian Olympian may be jailed over drug supply

Scott Andrew Miller, a former Australian Olympic swimmer, is scheduled to be sentenced after entering a guilty plea to charges linked to crystal meth worth AU$2 million (NZ$2. 2 million) discovered smuggled inside a consignment of candles.
Miller entered a guilty plea to two charges of selling an illegal substance in a large amount in March.
He is currently incarcerated and will get his sentence on Thursday in Sydney’s Downing Center District Court with his co-defendants, Wayne Allan Johnson and Justin Szabolics.

The then 45-year-old swimmer was taken into custody in February 2021, a month after crystal methylamphetamine was discovered smuggled within eight candles.
Police calculated that the overall haul could have sold for more than AU$2 million if sold on the streets, with each candle having 500 grammes of the substance.
Miller has confessed joining a criminal group, despite the fact that one charge against him of intentionally leading a criminal group was dropped.

Additionally, he will get a term for one count of dealing with less than AU$100,000 ($110,000 NZ) in criminal proceeds.
Johnson, who is now free on bond, is accused of taking part in a criminal organisation once, possessing illegal drugs twice, and participating in the supply of illegal drugs once.
Szabolics is currently in detention and is accused of both participating in a criminal organisation and supplying a forbidden substance in a big commercial amount.

One more man For his involvement in the narcotics syndicate, Luke Mathew Peake was given a sentence in March of this year that carried a maximum prison term of two years and six months. His 15-month sentence without parole expired on May 13.
Drugs from Sydney were reportedly headed for regional New South Wales, according to police.
At the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, Miller took home two medals: silver and bronze. He also temporarily wed Sydney model Charlotte Dawson.
