The United States condemns the resumption of fighting in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The March 23 Armed Movement’s decision to resume fighting in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was severely denounced by the United States.
The US State Department said – in a press release published on its website, today, Tuesday, that Washington calls for an immediate endowment of hostilities and respect for human rights and international humanitarian law.

She demanded that the March 23 movement leave its holdings and that the Congolese parties resume their dialogue in order to prepare for disarmament and the societal integration promised by the Republic of the Republic of Congo Democracy. She claimed that hostilities had resulted in significant suffering for civilians, including civilian deaths and injuries as well as a large number of newly displaced people.

According to the statement, the United States urged all actors in the region to stop any support or cooperation with the March 23 movement or other NGOs, saying that Washington is still deeply concerned about the escalation of hate speech and urges to stop violent discourse.
She emphasised that the Security Council resolutions’ criteria for imposing sanctions on parties is their involvement in the planning, direction, care, or conduct of attacks against United Nations peacekeeping personnel.

The return of fighting in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is condemned by the United States.
