The new parliament in Latvia holds its first sessions

One month after the country’s legislative elections, the parliament of Latvia, one of the Baltic states and a member of NATO, convened its first session.
The Latvia Egils President opened the opening session today, Tuesday, calling on the 100 members of Parliament to work together for the country’s interest.

In his speech, he made reference to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the significant increase in energy costs, and the quickening of inflation by saying, “You start your work in times of crisis.”
The election of the key positions was the primary item on the agenda. Edwards Smiles, the Governor and Speaker of Parliament, was chosen for this operation from the Central Movement’s United Nations List. The agreement about the ruling coalition is still pending, though.

As a result, it is still unclear who will control Russia’s border with northeastern Europe. The existing administration of Prime Minister Carissianis Karens will continue to serve as the caretaker administration until a new prime minister and ministerial group are chosen.
Lots, who must give the authorization to form the government, had delegated Karens after voting on October 3 to hold preliminary talks with potential coalition partners on a possible alliance.

Karens, the Conservative National Alliance, and the United form a triangular partnership to form the conservative liberal “new unity” party. There are still some variations, such as the creation of the Ministry of Energy, Climate, and the Environment.
By a wide margin, the “New Unity” party won the most votes in the elections. In the European Parliament, the Karens Party is a member of the group known as the European Parliament.

However, all of its former coalition partners—with the exception of the National Alliance—failed to win seats in the legislature, which means that the four-party coalition that is in place now no longer has a majority.

The first sessions of Latvia’s new parliament are held.
