The two-day 31st Arab Summit got underway with the theme “Arab Reamival.”
The Arab summit in Algeria is particularly significant because it was not held two years ago; it is also taking place in extremely dangerous international circumstances due to the significant challenges that call for and demand strengthening specific mechanisms for joint Arab work in order to achieve solidarity between the Arab countries in order to overcome these challenges and get out of multiple crises in order to achieve the common interests of the Arab people.
The Palestinian issue comes at the head of the Arab summit agenda in Algeria because it is the first issue of the Arabs in addition to there are other very important files such as African -European relations and the Arab region for free exchange, economy and commercial investment.
The periodic chairmanship of the Arab summit will also be transferred from Tunisian President Qais Saeed, who is in charge of the thirty-first regular session, to Algerian President Abdel Majid Taboun at the summit.
The summit opens a word from the Algerian President, then the Secretary -General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, followed by brief words for the observers and the guest.
Tomorrow morning, a closed consultative session will conclude the Arab Summit. This will be followed by a first public working session with Arab leaders, then both closed and open sessions.
The Palestinian issue, the Arab-Israeli conflict, the Lebanese file, the Syrian crisis, the situation in Libya and Yemen, the support of peace and development in Sudan, and the fight against terrorism are a few of the issues on the summit’s agenda.
The project of declaring Algeria is also included in the important files to discuss, along with the project of the periodic session of the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, amending articles from the Arab Parliament’s articles of association, and decisions raised by the Economic and Social Council.
