Numerous initiatives to assist people in repairing and adapting their homes are receiving funds totaling more than $5 million from the Nova Scotian government.
The $5.2 million investment will benefit 300 more households and “meet rising need for support,” according to a release from the province. In addition to the $18.7 million budgeted for the programmes in 2022–2023, this funding is provided.
John Lohr, the minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, stated in the release that “affordable housing is at a crisis point in Nova Scotia and the cost of completing home repairs continues to grow.”
“More and more Nova Scotians want assistance to complete the renovations and repairs required to keep living safely and comfortably in their own homes. With this support, we can assist more individuals more quickly and seek to protect the critical housing stock.

According to the statement, participants in the programmes must be eligible, and “help is limited to urgent emergency repairs or necessary repairs and improvements that improve health and safety and extend the life of the property.”
Through these programmes, the province accepts more than 2,000 applications for scholarships and forgiven loans each year.
The extra funds, according to the province, will also aid in accelerating the processing of applications who are waiting for assistance.
