Mikati: The Lebanese parliament is supposed to remain held when the government is up

Today, on Tuesday, Lebanese Prime Minister Naguib Mikati stated that the parliament must continue to meet while the cabinet is in session and performing business.
The Lebanese Prime Minister Naguib Mikati added, in press statements to the Sky News Arabia satellite channel: “Our goal is to elect a president as soon as possible and to bring the Lebanese and not separate them.

According to Sky News Arabia, Lebanese President Michel Aoun left Baabda Palace after his stint as president came to an end.
Before departing his position at Baabda Palace, Lebanese President Michel Aoun signed a proclamation announcing the resignation of the Naguib Mikati administration.
According to media reports, Lebanese President Michel Aoun will step down today, Sunday, and leave Lebanon in a state of disarray.

A unit of the Republican Guard performs by welcoming and playing the army’s marching music, the national anthem, and music honouring the guard as Aoun exits his office after saying goodbye to the senior staff.
Aoun is scheduled to go to a special platform in front of the citizens who will participate in his farewell and receive a word on this occasion, then he leaves in the presidential car to Baabda Palace in the crowd of depositors.

Prior to this, the Council members expressed their strong support for Lebanon’s stability, security, territorial integrity, sovereignty, and political independence in a statement, calling on the Lebanese government to “implement known, necessary, and tangible reforms quickly and transparently,” in accordance with Security Council resolutions and the Security Council President’s decisions regarding the situation in Lebanon.

They emphasised that “these reforms are important to addressing the legitimate needs and aspirations of the Lebanese people with regard to the critical security, economic, social, and humanitarian difficulties the country is currently confronting.

The members emphasised the need to “conduct a quick, independent, fair, comprehensive, and transparent investigation into the two explosions that shook Beirut on August 4, 2020,” pointing out “the importance of holding free, fair, and comprehensive elections in 2022 transparently and according to the planned schedule, in a manner that guarantees the full, equal, and targeted participation of women as a candidate and a vice.”

Due to the serious gasoline crisis and tank kidnappings that have occurred recently in Lebanon, the Lebanese army has announced that it will transport fuel stations and warehouses, seize any concealed supplies, and distribute them to the populace.

Mikati: When the government is out, the Lebanese parliament is supposed to continue to meet.
