Migos rapper Takeoff dead after Houston shooting, rep says

A spokesman confirmed that the rapper Takeoff, who is most known for his collaborations with the Grammy-nominated group Migos, passed away following a shooting early on Tuesday (local time, overnight NZT) outside a bowling alley in Houston. He was 28.
Along with Quavo and Offset, Takeoff, also known as Kirsnick Khari Ball, was a member of the group Migos. The death was verified to The Associated Press by a member of Migos who was not authorised to talk in public.
Police responded shortly after 2.

Police responded at around 1:30 a.m. to allegations of a shooting at 810 Billiards & Bowling, where a large group of people were gathered on a balcony outside the third-floor bowling alley, according to police. When officers arrived, they found one individual deceased.
More than seven hours after the shooting, an AP reporter on the site saw a body put into a medical examiner’s van at 10am.
According to a police spokesperson, security workers in the neighbourhood heard the shooting but were unable to spot the shooter.

Two additional people were hurt and driven to medical facilities in private vehicles.
Although no arrests have been made and few facts about the events leading up to the shooting have been made public, Houston police have scheduled a news conference for Tuesday afternoon (local time). The street, which was ordinarily closed to the public, was kept open for media personnel at the scene.

A number of spectators had gathered in front of the bowling alley, which is located in a three-story downtown Houston shopping centre with upscale eateries, a House of Blues, and a Four Seasons hotel.
When he learned Takeoff had been killed, Isaiah Lopez, 24, claimed he hurried from his house in the Houston suburb of Humble.
“He was one of my brother and I’s favourites. It’s all we would listen to,” Lopez said as he carried a dozen roses he hoped to place near the site of the shooting.

“I had to come over here and pay my respects as soon as my brother called me and said, ‘Takeoff is gone.'”
Approximately five minutes away from the shooting scene, Thomas Moreno, 30, described Takeoff as “a real lovely person” after meeting him at an event at a Houston club and restaurant in June.
Moreno remarked, “I feel it’s simply another excellent guy gone too soon.” “Though it hurts every day, it hurts more when it’s a young, talented person.

Takeoff was the youngest member of the rap group Migos, which also included his uncle Quavo and his cousin Offset. The group came from the suburbs of Atlanta.
Versace, a song that became a huge smash and was further popularised by Drake, was their first big hit.
The group has four Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 songs, however Takeoff was absent from their multi-week No. 1 song Bad & Boujee with Lil Uzi Vert.

The first two albums in their trilogy, Culture, Culture II, and Culture III, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 album list. For their streaming success with songs including Motorsport (with Cardi B and Nicki Minaj), Stir Fry, and Walk It Talk It, they also received an ASCAP Vanguard Award in 2018.
The trio appeared as a fictionalised version of themselves on an episode of the popular television programme Atlanta, but they were not all together at the time.

Offset, who is married to Cardi B, put out a solo album in 2019, and Takeoff and Quavo only last month put out their collaborative album Only Built for Infinity Links. Quavo posted links earlier this week on his Instagram to his and Takeoff’s Halloween-themed music video, Messy, along with a video of him and his friends driving around Houston..

Takeoff, a rapper for the Migos, has died following the shooting in Houston, according to a representative.
