Human rights organisations in the city of Zagora, southeast of Morocco, organised a demonstration against the influence of officials following the proliferation of magic and sorcery and condemned these activities.
The protestors requested that the victims of these operations and the judiciary follow up on their investigations, which showed that local officials had formed a gang for the purpose of “hunting for treasures” and were involved in these operations.
The Moroccan Association for Human Rights, which organised the demonstration in Zagora, declared that this stance was taken to stand up for the victims and defend their rights while highlighting the necessity of holding the corrupt accountable by using the law.
While these development came after the judicial authorities in the region announced the start of investigations into the file of “magic and sorcery” against the background of a complaint filed by a woman accusing a local employee of exploiting her in the search for treasures.
A number of local officials in the file who were filed with the reserve prison and were the subject of investigations were suspended pending the issuing of a file in the file.
Notably, the human rights organisation acknowledged in a statement the growth of magic gangs that prey on children, calling for true protection by initiating a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend those involved in such horrible crimes.
