German Foreign Minister: The policy of dealing with China is agreed upon in the ruling coalition agreement

German Foreign Minister Analeina Perbuk brought up the agreements made by the German ruling coalition about China policy just before German Chancellor Olaf Schults’ maiden trip to Beijing.

Perbuk stated that China has changed significantly in recent years in statements to German TV’s second channel (ZDF) today, Wednesday. “Therefore, we jointly established in the ruling coalition agreement that we will harmonise our policy towards China as many European countries have done in the past,” Perbuk said.

Perpuk stated that while there is cooperation with China on global issues, there is also growing competition in which China also employs unfair tactics, adding that the nation is increasingly evolving into a “systematic competitor”. Perpuk further explained that he had travelled to Central Asia and that the counsellor would visit China in accordance with an understanding of geostrategic significance reached by the ruling coalition, emphasising that there are no differences in this regard.

He stated on Tuesday that important communications from the German government to Chinese President Xi Jinping were anticipated to be delivered by Schultz.
Perbuk concludes its tour in Central Asia today, Wednesday, with a vision of Germany -supported project to improve irrigation infrastructure in the Uzbek city of Samarkand.

Through the project being carried out within the scope of the “Central Asia Green” programme, the German Foreign Ministry seeks to encourage regional reconciliation between Central Asian nations and enhance debate on the effects of climate change and related concerns.
