A fundraiser for Florida governor candidate Charlie Crist and a gathering for the state’s Democratic Party, which will feature Senate contender Val Demings, are also on Biden’s calendar.
The visit to Florida, where Democrats are trailing in both the Senate and the gubernatorial races, may appear counterintuitive just one week before polls close in the midterm elections when so many other races are tighter.
Though Florida Democrats are hoping Biden can assist boost base attendance, Biden friends said it represents the president’s attempts to go where he can be helpful as well as to deliver a message that vulnerable Democrats can reinforce nationally.
Senators Raphael Warnock of Georgia and John McCain of Arizona are two of the Democrats’ most vulnerable prospects, and Biden has avoided campaigning with them.
