Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El -Sisi and his Algerian counterpart, Abdel Majid Taboun, agreed on the necessity of pushing the elections in Libya as soon as possible and removing foreign forces from the country.
The two parties met as a prelude to the Arab summit that was held in Algeria.

The need of striving to secure peace and stability, protect the unity and sovereignty of Libya, and then the necessity of pushing toward the presidential and parliamentary elections at the earliest opportunity were discussed by the two parties.
In addition to preserving the Libyan national institutions, and maximizing international efforts to remove all foreign forces and mercenaries from the country, according to what was stated in the Egyptian presidential statement, Wednesday.

It is significant that two governments, one based in Tripoli and commanded by Abdel Hamid Al-Dubba and the other in Sirte and contested for control in Libya since March 2022.
The country was scheduled to witness presidential and legislative elections in December 2021, culminating in the United Nations peace process after violence in 2020.

However, due to political disagreements and field tensions brought on by increased armed clashes between rival militias in Tripoli, these polls have been postponed until further notice.
