USask survey looks at how people deal with rising food costs

According to Laurie O’Connor, executive director of the Saskatoon Food Bank, more residents of Saskatoon are having difficulty providing food for themselves and their family as grocery shop costs continue to grow beyond their means.
People in the Prairie provinces were far more likely to have used emergency measures, such as food banks or a communal fridge, according to a recently released national poll.

People were asked how they manage rising food prices in a poll conducted by the Canadian Hub for Applied and Social Research at the University of Saskatchewan.
The vast majority of respondents claimed to use coupons or shop sales.
However, close to 20% of respondents also cut back on their meal portions or skipped them entirely to save money.
Quebec saw the starkest difference from the Prairies, with 95 per cent of respondents there saying they could afford to eat a balanced diet..
