In light of the current global crises, Dr. Amr Mamdouh, President of the Medicine City, announced at the Medicine and Health Care Conference in the New Republic that a session had been set aside to discuss providing medicines for the Egyptian healthcare system. He added that the city of medicine has a crucial objective to play a proactive role in promoting drug security in Egypt.
He said that the medicine body was created to achieve 4 goals, the first is to enable the citizen to obtain a safe and effective medicine, with high quality, at an appropriate price, secondly: that there is medication security when there are parties, or problems in supply chains, third: that Egypt is a regional center for the defamation of investors The cornerstone for the provision of medicine in Egypt is export, and there is collaboration with numerous enterprises, whether joint stock companies or businesses in the business sector, to address any medication shortages.
He explained that export is one of the city of medicine’s strategies and that it operates along two axes: the first axis is cooperation with foreign companies to export these drugs, and the second axis is maintaining the highest standards of quality for our products in order to gain popularity. He added that our top priorities are the eastern countries of the Middle East, Africa, and then countries in Eastern Europe, after which we obtain a licence from the European Union until we are exported at.
He noted that we are setting up the city of medicine to produce oncology drugs, and that we are currently in talks with a few businesses because it is crucial to have a strong industrial base and the presence of a strategic partner for the transfer of technology. In the near future, within 18 months, oncology medications will be produced, and we care about biotechnology drugs and important ideologies that enter the oncology industry, and soon these drugs will be produced, he said.
We currently produce significant pharmaceuticals for the healthcare industry, including antibiotics for primary care, medications for chronic conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes, drugs for the digestive and nervous systems, and biomedia for oncology drugs. He added that we will generate the first phase of packaging within six months, and actual production will take between 18 and 24 months.
