Putin hosts a summit between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan without any rapprochement

The high-level conference between Armenia and Azerbaijan that took place in Russia today, Monday, did not bring about a resolution to their long-running conflict in the southern Caucasus.
At the Russian Sochi resort overlooking the Black Sea on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin received Azam Aliyev and Prime Minister Nicole Pashinyan of Armenia.
In a joint declaration, it was agreed to reject threats and violence in settling conflicts.

The necessity of the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan was declared by the three leaders.
Due to the disputed Nagorno Karabakh territory, the two former Soviet republics have been at war with one another since the early 1990s. The clashes between the two countries have concerned concerns about stability in the South Caucasus region, a corridor for pipelines that transport oil and gas to global markets..

Without any attempt at reconciliation, Putin organises a summit between the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
