MLA stripped of duties after inviting killer to throne speech

After assembly member Lyle Stewart invited an infamous killer to watch the government’s address from the throne last week, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says he is “unequivocally” apologising.
According to a statement from the Saskatchewan Party administration, Moe has immediately relieved Stewart of his role as legislative secretary.
Moe is to make a brief statement about the decision during proceedings in the Assembly later today.

Last week, Stewart invited Colin Thatcher to attend the speech.
Thatcher, who served as Grant Devine’s energy minister, was convicted guilty of first-degree murder in the 1983 death of his ex-wife and given a life sentence.
Stewart has said the decision to invite Thatcher was a mistake..

Following his invitation to the throne speech, the MLA was relieved of his duties.
