Meet the gilded hand-fan of Tutankhamun

CAIRO – 31 October 2022: Howard Carter discovered a few hand-fans in Tutankhamun’s tomb, which would have come in handy during the scorching Egyptian summer.
A very significant title held by powerful officials in ancient Egypt was “Fan Bearer of the King.”
Ostrich feathers were once fastened to this fan. The palm of the fan is decorated with the birth and throne titles of the king.

The two vultures on either side stand for Upper and Lower Egypt’s protecting deities.
