Man who rescued driver from car in Hamilton Harbour said he did it all on ‘adrenaline’

A man from Fisherville, Ontario, who saved a motorist from a sinking automobile that crashed into Hamilton Harbour said he was acting on “adrenaline” at the time.
Shawn Farquharson claims he was shocked to see the vehicle in the water at 9:30 p.m., not far from a boat launch, while out late-night fishing with a friend at Bayfront Park on Thursday.

Before Farquharson decided to go down to his underwear for a difficult rescue, the two ran around 20 metres to get a better look at the unexpected accident.
“I was unable to watch him die. I had to take action. It fell on me since nobody else could enter, he said to 900 CHML’s Good Morning Hamilton.
The 26-year-old saw the cab filling up with water and decided to jump into the ocean while a small group of people on the shore begged him to get out.

Farquharson said, “When I initially reached into the car, I kind of felt about for the seatbelt to make sure that that wasn’t around.”
Fortunately, it just sort of fell off of him. I began pulling and succeeded in removing his head first. He immediately slipped away after I pulled.
Despite not having had CPR training, Farquharson started chest compressions while squeezing the driver’s nose and blowing into his mouth after hauling the vulnerable man onto the car’s roof.

Minutes later, police would show there, providing Farquharson with “tremendous” relief. An officer would later join him in the water.
With the assistance of a police sergeant, the two would board a small civilian boat and travel quickly to the coast.
The driver was taken to the hospital by paramedics with non-life-threatening wounds.
Farquharson says that since the incident, his phone has been “blowing up” with messages of praise.

It’s absurd how many people find this behaviour so amazing. Just being honest, I think anyone would and should do it,” he remarked.
According to police, the cause of the collision is still under investigation.
