Firebombs were thrown at an immigration centre in the English port city of Dover on Sunday (local time), according to authorities. The perpetrator then killed himself. During the attack, two further persons suffered minor injuries, and over 700 migrants had to be moved.
“Two to three incendiary devices” were hurled at the facility where freshly arrived migrants are taken, according to the Kent Police, and two people “suffered minor injuries.”
According to a news photographer who was on the site, a man drove up and tossed three gas bombs at the facility before taking his own life at a nearby petrol station.
The suspect was “recognised, soon located at a nearby gas station, and confirmed deceased,” according to the police. According to the police, “an additional device was discovered and proven safe within the suspect’s vehicle.”
“All the people who are at the centre are being looked after, and safeguards are being done for their safety,” local politician Natalie Elphicke stated.
Many immigrants arrive in Dover after sailing in small boats over the English Channel from France. Since 2010, more people have been making the perilous trek across one of the busiest maritime routes in the world, with 40,000 arriving in the UK so far this year, up from 8,500 in 2020 and 28,000 in all of 2021.
Numerous people have perished, including 27 when a crowded smuggling boat capsized in November 2021.

Robert Jenrick, the minister of immigration, stated that police were informing him about the incident.
“My sympathies are with those involved and my thanks and admiration are with Kent Police and Border Force officers as they go about their essential work to keep us safe,” he said..
