Halloween safety tips from London, Ont. police

Halloween has arrived, and London, Ontario, police are warning trick-or-treaters to be careful on Monday night.
We want everyone to enjoy themselves, but please do it properly, said London police Constable Sandasha Bough.
Online safety guidelines from the police include advice on Halloween costumes and sweets.

Bough suggests using face paint rather than an actual mask for the children’s safety when dressing up in order to prevent tripping and to guarantee that they can see clearly.
To get around in the dark, use glow wristbands, glow sticks, and a flashlight. Bough advises, however, that you should “make sure the props you’re utilising are not hazardous to others.” There are no sharp edges, and no one may be hurt.

Bough advises adults to check the kids’ candy before they eat it to ensure its safety.
Any opened products or homemade snacks should be thrown away, she instructed.
Adults should verify the box of the sweets once more.
Trick-or-treaters may anticipate an overcast night with intermittent showers and a temperature of around 10 C.

According to Katrina Eyk, a meteorologist for Environment Canada, there may be fog patches later in the evening and visibility will be poor, so “you might want to bring torches or wear reflective clothes (and carry) an umbrella or a rain jacket.”
Bough and Eyk urge drivers to use additional caution and pay attention to pedestrians.
