After making it to the short list for the Royal Society for Science Award in the UK during one of its previous sessions, Susan Osoulvan’s book, “Sleeping Beauty,” was added to the award library series.
“High school kids are contagious in northern New York, where refugees’ children slumber for months and years in Sweden. At the US embassy in Cuba, employees complain of headache and memory loss after hearing strange noise at night.

Doctors and scientists have battled to explain these many situations within the confines of medical science, and most crucially, how to treat them. They are among the most significant diagnostic puzzles of the twenty-first century. What ties them together is that they are all illustrations of a certain class of physical psychological illnesses: medical conditions that are influenced by the unique characteristics of various cultures just as much as they are influenced by human biology.

In her book, the neurologist Susan Osoulvan presented a set of stories inspired by her trips around the world during her visit to societies that were also exposed to the spread of the so -called “mystery” diseases and attempts to reveal its complex meaning, while asking the question: Who determines what is the disease and what is the disease?

Suzan Osoulvan has been working as a consultant in neurosurgery since 2004, when she worked first at the Royal London Hospital and now as a consultant in clinical neurological physiology and neuroscience at the National Hospital of Neurosurgery and Neurosurgery. She has particular expertise in difficult epilepsy research and a keen interest in mental illnesses.

Susan I book, everything in your head, received the Wellcome Book Award and the Royal Association for Biology, and her book was published by Brainstorm, which won the approval of critics in 2018.
