A record number .. Selling a page from “The Book of Kings” to Fares for 9.1 million dollars

A page from the Kings Book was sold to Persia at Sotheby’s auction in the British capital of London for 8061,700 pounds, which is equal to 9091,179 dollars. This sale set a record for any Islamic work on paper sold at the auction and surpassed the previous record set in 2011 by another paper from the same manuscript.

Two of the primary protagonists throughout the narrative—Rustam and the Persian word lightning—are shown in the heroic moment recovering his horse from the ruins. From the moment it is published till the present, the manuscript has a dazzling source. He was given to Sultan Selim II of the Ottoman Empire by the third Safavid Emperor, Shah Tahmas, and went on to become the king of one of the great empires. He was first assigned by Shah Ismail, the first Safavid Emperor.

Shahmeh Shah Tahmasb is recognized globally as one of the highest manuscripts in any period or culture and classified among the greatest artworks in the world. Two leaves of the same renowned manuscript currently fetch the highest price of any Islamic work on paper, which is a testament to the expertise, attention to detail, and beauty of pure art.
