A conversation between Beijing and Washington on the Russian -Ukrainian war

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, discussed the competition between their two countries and the Russian -Ukrainian war during a phone call, according to the US State Department.
According to State Department spokesman Ned Price, “The Foreign Minister addressed the need to maintain open channels of communication and handle relations with responsibility” between the United States and China.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, “the restoration of the Sino-American relationship to the road of stable development is not only in the interest of both sides, but also an universal desire for the entire community.”
The two nations are involved in a conflict over a number of hot-button issues, including Taiwan, the Sea of China, human rights in Xinjiang (in the northwest), technical rivalry, and commercial conflict.

According to a statement from Ned Price, the two parties also discussed the Ukrainian situation and “Russia’s challenges to global security and economic stability.”
Wang Yi urged “all parties to control” on his part.
China issued a statement stating that the minister demanded “intensifying diplomatic measures to avoid the situation from worsening further.”
Some Western nations believe that China, which formally supports the conflict in Ukraine, is particularly forgiving toward Moscow.

The call between Chinese and American officials comes days after a phone conversation between Wang Yi and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.
Wang stated to Farf on Thursday that “China is prepared to strengthen the interactions with Russia at all levels.”
