The Tunisian government said today, on Saturday, that there had been 14 attempts at illegal immigration across the Mediterranean border, and 319 individuals had been saved from drowning.

In a statement, the official spokesman for the General Administration of the Tunisian National Guard said that in the course of combating the issue of illegal immigration, units from the Maritime Guard provinces in the country’s centre, north, and coast were able to thwart 14 attempts to enter the country illegally through the sea as well as rescue and save 319 migrants.

The spokesman added that the coast guard units, for their part, managed to thwart seven covert attempts to cross the maritime border and rescue 83 immigrants from death, including seven people of sub-Saharan nationalities and 76 Tunisians, after their boats were also drowned. The sea guard units in the centre thwarted six attempts to cross the maritime border illegally and saved 230 migrants of sub-Saharan nationalities from drowning after their boats were drowned.

The official noted that when their boat was disrupted, the northern guard region troops in the north were able to stop people from sneakily crossing maritime borders and save six migrants from drowning.

Tunisia reports that 14 attempts at illegal immigration were unsuccessful and that 319 migrants were saved from drowning.
