Guterres calls for efforts to extend the “Ukraine Pills Exports” agreement

A spokesman for the United Nations Secretary -General, Stephen Dujarric, stressed the need to quickly lift “barriers” in front of Russian exports.
The original duration of the agreement on Ukrainian exports, according to Dujarik, is “120 days and can be automatically extended on November 19 if no side opposes.”

According to Agence France-Presse, “We call on all parties to make every effort to restart the Black Sea initiative and fulfil both the two accords, including the explicitly removal of any lingering barriers to exports of grain and Russian fertilisers.
A Guterres spokeswoman said, “We are not discounting the hurdles, but we know that they can be addressed.

They emphasised the need for clarification on the part of “governments, shipping firms, grain merchants, fertilisers, and farmers around the world.”
“We emphasize the urgent necessity to do so to contribute to food security around the world and alleviate the suffering caused by the living costs of billions of people in the world,” said Dujarik.

Notably, the Black Sea agreement, which was signed on July 22 under the auspices of the UN, stipulated a 120-day mechanism to permit the shipment of Ukrainian medicines after it was halted due to the war. This mechanism allowed the export of about 9 million tons of grains and the severity of the global food crisis caused by the war, other than Doubts about the extension of the agreement led to the high prices of some products.

The facilitation of Russian exports is outlined in a second agreement that was signed on July 22; nonetheless, Moscow says that Western sanctions, particularly in the financial and logistical sectors, prevent it from selling its output and fertiliser.
Russia will experience “huge fury,” according to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, if Moscow cancels the grain export agreement with Ukraine.

Martin Griffiths, the director of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, stated on Wednesday that he is generally optimistic about the potential for the grain deal to grow.

The “Ukraine Pills Exports” deal should be extended, says Guterres.
