A Russian journalist was killed during a Crimea training training

A Russian journalist who worked for a sizable Kremlin-backed media organisation was reportedly killed on Friday in a shooting incident at a Crimean military training plaza, according to Russian officials and official media.
Svetlana Babayeva, head of the Russian Sigodenia Media Group in Simpiropol, was the second largest city in the Crimea, which Russia included from Ukraine in 2014.

The RIA Sigudnia news agency’s affiliate, Russia Sigudnia, stated that Babayiva was killed by a stray bullet during the incident but gave no other information.
The media, as reported by Russian news agencies, claimed that Svetlana Babayeva, who oversaw the “Russia Segdonia” group’s peninsula branch, passed away in one of Crimea’s military training facilities while receiving instruction in shooting.

Babayiva spent years working for this public organisation, which also comprises RIA Novosti News Agency and the Sputnik Group. She worked in roles in both London and the US.
A friendly individual “wanted to help our warriors” in Ukraine and “was firmly backing Russia.”
The journalist was hailed by Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, as were other members of the Russian occupation government in Ukraine.

Babayiva was born in 1972, and began working in “Russia Segdonia” after the Russian state strengthened its dominance on the media. She has worked as a journalist for her in the Crimean city of Simferopol since 2019.

In the course of a training exercise in Crimea, a Russian journalist died.
