The Iranian government tried to ease traffic after the violent incidents in Zahedan, the Sistan Baluchistan border region with Afghanistan and Pakistan, late last month that left dozens dead. Security personnel, including the municipal police head, were fired in an effort to do so.

According to a statement released by the official news agency “IRNA” on Thursday night, Friday, the Security Council in Sistan and Baluchistan announced a summary of an investigation into the events at the request of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi.

According to France Press, he asserted that “on September 30, after the conclusion of Friday prayers for the Sunnah in the city of Zahedan, a group of persons (more than 150 people) stormed the police station number 16 adjacent to the place of prayer with the objective of controlling it.”

He also pointed out that “the police station near the place of Friday prayers, the incomplete evacuation of the mosque, and the confrontation through the shooting by the police forces, unfortunately led to the wound and the death of a number of citizens who were performing the prayer, and innocent infantry had no involvement” Events.
In response, he admitted that there had been “negligence by some officials” and declared that “the police chief number 16 and the Zahnan police chief had been fired.

He also promised to make amends to the victims’ families and to take the matter to court.
For its part, local figures indicated that the tension began after news that a girl was “raped” by an official in the provincial police, and that the security forces “shot” gathering near the Bazanan mosque.

Although there were 35 total fatalities among civilians, some of them were “some mosque attendees who were slain in the first stage in the neighbourhood of the police station, who were killed by armed persons.”
Additionally, human rights groups outside of Iran have claimed that more than 90 persons were affected by the clashes in Zahedan.

It is noteworthy that on September 30, violent events took place in Zahedan, in the southeast of the country, leaving scores dead, including six members of the security forces.
This tension came at a time when Iran has been witnessing protests since September 16 against the background of the death of Muhsa Amini (22 years) three days after it was arrested by the Ethics Police because of its lack of commitment to the strict rules of dress in Iran..
