The Saudi Federation honors Jorge Solari

The Saudi Football Association honoured Argentine Jorge Raul Solari on Friday. Solari was the coach of the first Saudi national team that competed in the 1994 World Cup and advanced to the second round, marking the best performance of “Al-Akhdar” in the global wedding.

As the first coach to oversee the team’s training for the World Cup, Solari, 80, was given the “Green” shirt bearing his name and number 94 by Musab Al-Alwan, the director of communication for the first Saudi national team. Al-Alwan also conveyed greetings from Yasser Al-Meshal, President of the Football Association, to Solari. The award came after Solari gave a lengthy interview to the “goal” show on Thursday as part of the program’s historical series commemorating the team’s participation in the previous five finals. This was Solari’s first appearance in a television interview in the area since 1994.

After “Al-Akhdar” lost to the Netherlands 2-1 and then defeated Morocco with a pair of goals, beating Belgium in the third match with a clean goal, Solari was able to guide the Saudi national team to the second round of the 1994 World Cup in America. However, he ultimately lost to Sweden 3-1.
