The Lebanese President launches the path of negotiation with Cyprus on the demarcation of the maritime borders

Following the demarcation of the southern maritime borders with Israel, Lebanese President Michel Aoun today, on Friday, began talks with Cyprus about establishing the maritime borders between the two nations.

Following the success of demarcating the southern maritime borders with Israel, President Aoun stated during his reception of the delegation of the Republic of Cyprus today that the goal of the meeting is to agree to address the issue of the stuck in the demarcation of the maritime borders with Cyprus.
Aoun added that Lebanon and Cyprus do not need a mediator between them because they are neighboring countries and two friends, which makes the task easy to remove emerging ambiguities.

The Cypriot side was represented at the meeting by Tazhounis, a private presidential envoy, Ambassador Panuitis Kiriako of Cyprus in Lebanon, Maria Pelico of the Cyprus State Law Office, and Englishmen Matteo and Yorgos Cocosis from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Dr. Antoine Choucair, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, the Director General of Public Security, and other senior officials were present for the meeting between Elias Bou Saab, the vice-president of the Lebanese House of Representatives, the Minister of Public Works and Transport who is on a diet, and the Ministers of Energy and Water.
