The head of the parliamentary “extension” bloc confirmed that he was attacked by members of the “strategic framework” during the voting session while the Iraqi parliament yesterday, Thursday, gave the government of Muhammad Shi’a Al-Sudani confidence following the presentation of its government programme, which received an absolute majority of votes.

In the specifics, Al-Rikabi released a video tape showing him and his colleague, MP Falah Al-Hilali, being physically assaulted during the session. The two appeared from within a room in Parliament as security personnel fought to keep them safe.
They also stated in the film that they had received threats up to their deaths, stating that the reason for the attack was their refusal to accept the results of the vote for the new government.

This occurred as additional recordings of fighting within the council during the session started to circulate on social media in the previous hours.
According to reporting from Al-Arabiya, a fight broke out during the voting process for the new administration, which was presided over by Muhammad al-Halbousi, the Council President, and 253 other delegates.

It is significant that the new President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Rashid, immediately after his election, entrusted Muhammad Shi’a Al-Sudani, a governor and former minister who is rising from the traditional Shiite political class, the task of forming the cabinet on October 13.
Since receiving his job, he has persisted in his efforts to settle the allocation of political forces’ places among blocs, sects, and components, i.e.

Sunnis, Shiites, and Kurds, according to quotas as is common in Iraq, provided that the Shiites hold the majority of the ministries and the Sunnis and Kurds share the remaining positions.
While the main opponent of the coordination framework, the Shiite leader Muqtada al -Sadr, announced that he would not participate in the next government, after confirming the retirement of politics, and his deputies announced their resignations..
