The new American National Defense plan, which identifies the top security challenges to the nation, was fully released by the Pentagon on Thursday.
The Pentagon strategy calls for “urgent measures to enhance deterrence efforts” towards China, which Washington considers “the main challenge” of the United States.
In a news conference on Thursday, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin unveiled the new approach and stated that “China is our sole opponent that seeks to disrupt the world order and has more means to achieve this.”
In light of its military operation in Ukraine, the Pentagon also noted the presence of a “serious danger from Russia,” emphasising that the US Department of Defense “will continue to prevent the Russian aggression against the critical interests of the United States, especially against our allies.”
