With two goals and two assists, Messi led Paris Saint-Germain in their victory over the Maccabi squad, 7-2, in the fifth round of the Champions League group stage.
With 39 assists, Messi surpassed Angel de Maria, who had 38 assists, to become the second-most goal-makers in the history of the European Champions League. Messi will continue to hold this position, especially since de Maria retired from the tournament with Juventus.
Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United striker, tops the list of the most goals in the Champions League, with 42 Assist, and Messi has the opportunity to skip Ronaldo, especially since the Portuguese star is absent from the tournament.
With 11 points and a goal differential over second-place Benfica, who also has 11, Paris Saint-Germain leads the group. Maccabi Haifa and Juventus are tied for third place with 3 points each.
