After Halloween is over, compost or cook those pumpkins: RDCO

The age-old question of what to do with your pumpkin(s) will soon arise as Halloween draws closer.
Cooking and composting are both viable options in addition to throwing it in the trash.
Rae Stewart of the Regional District of Central Okanagan explained that because they are high in nitrogen, pumpkins are excellent to add to your composter (RDCO).
“If you cut them into small pieces and add some fall leaves, they will break down much faster than leaving them whole.

You’ll have a fantastic, nutrient-rich soil amendment for your garden or lawn by following spring.
The pumpkins can be put in carts at the curb for yard debris if you don’t compost. Yard garbage collection is still being done as of December 31, according to the RDCO.
The RDCO advises thinking about cooking choices if your pumpkin makes it through Halloween intact.
According to the RDCO, pumpkins can be a good source of protein and potassium when toasted or baked.

Making pumpkin spice lattes and using it as a temporary planter are two additional ways to prepare pumpkins.
In keeping with Halloween, the RDCO stated that while candy wrappers cannot be disposed of in recycling carts, they may be recycled by returning them to a recycling depot under the flexible packaging recycling programme.
Visit the RDCO website for further details on the composting, yard trash, or recycling collection services.
