The French-German cabinet conference had been planned to take place in Fonteneblo, close to Paris, but it was postponed last week. According to a government official for Germany, the requirement for coordination on “bilateral concerns” is the cause.
The Elysee Palace claimed that additional time was required for defence and energy coordination, but the delay has no bearing on the condition of French-German relations.
Despite the delay, Schultz and Macron met Thursday before the European Union summit in Brussels, but they mainly spoke about preparing for consultations with the heads of state and other 25 governments in the bloc..
