Sudanese Minister of Irrigation: We have studies and solutions for climate change problems, and we need financing

Engineer Daw Al-Bayt Abdel Rahman Mansour, the Sudanese Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, stated that the ministry has studies and solutions to the problems caused by climate change but needs funding. He appealed to the Ministry of Finance and international organisations to fund these studies and assist in achieving tangible results to benefit from the floods and torrents that regularly hit the nation.

Mansour stated today during a workshop sponsored by the General Administration of Policy and Planning at the Ministry of Irrigation that the effect of climate change appeared to be clear and real in the centre and northern Sudan, noting that rain in the northern state and the floods experienced in some areas of the country affected the fragile areas.

Mansour stated that the Al-Manbul plateau’s effect was what caused the floods and torrents that swept the Al-Manqal region (in the state of Al-Jazeera in central Sudan) and damaged people’s property and their agricultural fields.

According to Ibrahim Daw Al-Bayt, floods and torrents frequently occur, but this year’s damage was much larger due to the worsening of the environment, the social and economic condition, and other factors, emphasising the necessity for advance planning.
