Gun control advocates say Canadians must choose between hobbies and children’s lives

Any exceptions to the federal handgun freeze, according to an umbrella group of gun control proponents, should be very precisely stated.
Wendy Cukier of the Coalition for Gun Control told the House of Commons public safety committee today it is important that exemptions do not become the rule.

In an effort to reduce gun violence, the Liberal administration has implemented regulations that prohibit the importation, purchase, sale, or other transfer of handguns. These regulations will be strengthened by new legislation.
The proposed legislation would maintain the ability of exceptional sport shooters to own handguns, an exemption that some would like to be extended to more leisure shooters.

MPs are being urged by representatives of the International Practical Shooting Confederation to expand the exemption to cover competitors.
Cukier told MPs studying the firearms legislation that it comes down to a stark choice between hobbies and children’s lives..

Gun control supporters claim that Canadians must decide between their hobbies and the lives of their children.
