As the proportion of Russian gas imported by the European Union fell from 40% to 7%, Josep Borrell, the commissioner for foreign policy, declared that Europe had been able to lessen its reliance on Russian gas.
Borrell stated at a meeting of the United Nations Economic Committee for countries in Latin America and the Caribbean basin in Buenos Aires, “This drives us to hunt for new suppliers and make a bet on non-carbon energy.”
