Borrell: Europe reduced its dependence on Russian gas

As the proportion of Russian gas imported by the European Union fell from 40% to 7%, Josep Borrell, the commissioner for foreign policy, declared that Europe had been able to lessen its reliance on Russian gas.
Borrell stated at a meeting of the United Nations Economic Committee for countries in Latin America and the Caribbean basin in Buenos Aires, “This drives us to hunt for new suppliers and make a bet on non-carbon energy.”

We see these qualities in Latin America,” he continued, mentioning the region’s remarkable advancement of renewable energy.
It is interesting that, in light of Russia’s ongoing military action in Ukraine since last February, the European Union proclaimed its desire to stop relying on Russian energy supplies.
