Because of the brutal repression, Germany is preparing more European sanctions on Iran

In view of the ongoing protests in Iran over human rights, Germany said today, Wednesday, that more sanctions against the country are being prepared by the European Union.

The German Foreign Ministry announced on Twitter that it is considering including members of officials’ families in the sanctions, which would also restrict Iranian officials’ access to visas and tighten entry requirements for people who belong to organisations on the EU list.

“We are in the process of suspending the current bilateral dialogue formulas, and we will review the few tools remaining in trade and financial relations, in addition to reducing the presence of German cultural institutions operating in Iran. ”
German authorities should face “consequences,” according to the foreign ministry, for what it saw to be “brutal repression” of Iranian demonstrators.

Earlier today, Iran imposed sanctions on European individuals and entities, about a week after the European Union announced sanctions on Tehran for providing Moscow with drones used by Russia in its military operation in Ukraine.
The Iranian ethics police and a number of officials, including the Minister of Communications and Technology, Issa Zaraa Pour, were included in a set of restrictions that the European Union published on October 17.

Eight institutions, entities, and twelve individuals from the European Union were added to the list of sanctions by the Iranian Foreign Ministry in response on Wednesday. This was done “because of their deliberate measures in supporting terrorism and terrorist groups, inciting terrorism and violence, and spreading hatred that leads to riots, violence, terrorist practises, and violation of human rights against the Iranian people.”

The list of entities included the “Friends of Iran’s Free” group and its members in the European Parliament, the International Committee for the Search for Justice, in addition to the Persian service of the German “Deutsche Welle” channel and Radio France International.
Parliamentarians from Europe and France were on the list, along with two employees of the German publication “Bild.”

In addition to being denied admission and the ability to get travel documents, these people are also susceptible to having their “money and property subject to the state of the Islamic Republic of Iran” frozen.
In response to London’s sanctions against the Iranian ethical police in the context of the protests, Tehran added British organisations and people to its black list on October 19.

Germany is preparing more European sanctions against Iran due to the horrific repression.
