The incoming British prime minister Rishi Sonak and Taiwan’s foreign ministry both expressed a desire to forge a cooperative relationship based on shared principles and objectives.
In a statement released today, Tuesday, and cited by the Taiwanese Central News Agency, the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked the UK government for its ongoing support of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and for helping Taiwan strengthen its defences against coercive operations.

It also reaffirmed the desire to collaborate closely with Sonak to strengthen ties of friendship and collaboration between Taiwan and the United Kingdom in a number of areas, citing the fact that both countries share fundamental ideals including democracy, freedom, human rights, and the rule of law.

“Taiwan will continue to collaborate with the UK and other nations that have global views akin to improving democratic flexibility and solidarity and addressing expansion and authoritarian coercion,” he continued. “During a critical moment of radical changes in world political geography.”
