Iraq .. Sudanese confirms a government desire to enhance security cooperation with America

Muhammad Shi’a Al-Sudani, the next prime minister of Iraq, stated on Tuesday that the country’s new administration wants to improve ties with the US and increase security cooperation.
The Sudanese said to Telegram that he confirmed in an interview with the American Ambassador to Baghdad, Alina Romansky, and the commander of the international coalition forces, Matthew McFarlan, that maintaining security is the basic pillar of any economic reform.

The continuation of security coordination and cooperation between the two nations in the fight against terrorism in the context of advice and training, in a way that protects Iraq’s sovereignty and aids in the improvement of the capabilities of the Iraqi security forces, was also discussed, the official continued.

” For its part, the US ambassador renewed its country’s support for the new Iraqi government and its aspiration to expand the frameworks of bilateral cooperation, while the coalition commander stressed the importance of strengthening the partnership between the two sides.
A few days prior, a parliamentary meeting was scheduled to take place in order to vote on the new ministerial structure of the Iraqi government.

Al-Sudani reaffirmed his intention to continue holding talks with the coalition’s political blocs and interviewing its members who are running for cabinet seats in the new coalition administration.
His office said in a statement on Sunday that the candidates’ interviews are taking place through a specialized committee that includes a group of consultants, headed by the Sudanese.

In addition, he made note that the official announcement of the candidates who had been selected to assume the role would happen after the interviews, in order to guarantee the security of their position with regard to the legal issues and to choose the day of the confidence vote in the parliament.

The Sudanese made a promise to Abdul Latif Rashid, who was elected president of the country on October 13 after months of delays, disagreements, and the resignation of Sadr delegates, to offer a solid government formation and be able to build the country.

Since last year, Iraq has been embroiled in a political crisis between the Sadrist movement and the “coordination framework” (which consists of the Nuri al-Maliki-led State of Law coalition, the Al-Fateh alliance, and other Iranian-aligned factions), which up until last week made it impossible to elect a president or form a government.
