German police arrest climate protesters after throwing mashed potatoes at Claude Monet’s painting

CAIRO – 25 October 2022: German climate activists were detained by police after they threw mashed potatoes at a Claude Monet painting in a German museum to protest the use of fossil fuels, an act that had no negative effects on the work of art.
On Sunday, demonstrators targeted Monet’s “Les Meules” at the Barberini Museum in Potsdam, which is adjacent to Berlin.

According to CNBC, the group shared a video of a man and woman kneeling in front of a board and pressing their hands against the wall while tossing mashed potatoes at it.
The woman knelt before the Monet artwork and shouted out in German, “We are in a climatic calamity.” If we had to battle over food, this platter would be useless, she said.
The incident was the latest attack on a famous artwork by protesters demanding action on climate change.

Just Stop Oil activists were detained earlier this month when they threw tomato soup over Vincent van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” at the National Gallery in London.
These climate protests have garnered widespread attention online and a mixed reaction, with some criticizing activists for carrying out what they see as misleading attacks on beloved art in order to gain attention..

Following the hurling of mashed potatoes at a picture by Claude Monet, German police detain climate demonstrators.
