Blinken: It is time to end the military rule in Sudan

News from Al-Madinah: The United States welcomes comprehensive measures to find a way out of the political crisis in Sudan that ends military control and resumes the country’s transition to democracy, according to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
Blinken stated that “a new civilian government is achieving the key to the restoration of international support to Sudan” in a statement on the anniversary of the year of the military coup in Sudan.

“The Sudanese government stresses the need of constructive involvement in the conversation, and the United States continues to support the UN tripartite mechanism, the African Union, and the International Development Authority (IGAD), Blinken continued.
Blinken emphasised that his nation is “ready to utilise all the measures at our disposal to thwart those who wish to impede the Sudanese transition to democracy.

“The United States continues to reject military rule and supports the Sudanese people in their demands for freedom, peace, and justice for all,” he concluded.
Weeks ago, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the American ambassador to Khartoum John Godfrey, called for statements by local media “carrying threats” to the Sudanese government if it agreed to “establish a Russian naval base”, on the Red Sea coast.

The creation of a Russian base in the Red Sea or the resumption of negotiations, according to the American ambassador at the time, would be detrimental to Sudan’s interests.
