Today, on Tuesday, after the Conservative Party announced his election as the party’s leader, British Prime Minister Rishi Sonak meets with King Charles III before taking office.
Sonak, for his part, emphasised that achieving economic stability is a priority in his first remarks to party members following his election. He also emphasised that all of the party’s wings will be represented in the cabinet and that the choice of ministers will not be based solely on names.
Rishi Sonak became the first person of Indian heritage to hold this position, supported by the Conservative Party and the British Government’s presidency.
The Chairman of the 1922 Committee, Graham Braidi, announced the results of the nominations, and confirmed that the committee had received only one nomination, after Mourtun withdrew from the running race minutes before the closing of the nominations door, and Mournont said that it supports Sonak as the party’s leader and prime minister.
In the first reaction to Sonak’s victory, the opposition Labor Party considered that Sonak put his party’s interest over the country’s interest, and called for general elections immediately.
The appointment of Sonak as the country’s first non-white prime minister was hailed as a “pioneering achievement” by US President Joe Biden.
Sonak’s claim that the Indian prime minister had British ancestry is “quite impressive, a pioneering achievement, and is essential,” said Biden during an Indian feast celebration at the White House.
The new British Prime Minister Sonak will meet with the US President in the coming days, according to White House spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre.
Today, Sonak will begin his challenging assignment as prime minister by meeting with King Charles.
