Saskatoon Hilltops head coach ‘Sarge’ is still in charge after 25 years

The Saskatoon Hilltops are one of the few teams that can claim to have had the same head coach for their programme for 25 years.
Tom Sargeant, sometimes known as Sarge, is a man with a huge personality who is a master motivator, loud, competitive, and furious.
The affection I have for this coaching staff, my wife Kris, my daughters Macey and Abby, and my extended family come first and foremost, according to Sargeant.

“The years have kind of gone by, but every day I come out here, I still get the same feeling, so I know this is the appropriate location for me,” she said.
A team of outstanding assistant coaches always stands in support of a great head coach, and in this case, one who has won 13 national championships overall, including two as an assistant and one as a player for the Hilltops.

With his defensive coordinator Jeff Yausie, who has coached the Hilltops with Sarge for 21 years, Sarge most certainly possesses that.
We are aware that our careers are coming to an end, according to Yausie.
“We are aware that many excellent coaches are interested in leading this team and that they have the potential to become excellent coaches in the future. However, despite the fact that we are all the remaining players, we are extremely good friends and have a great time. I believe that this has an impact on the players.

Additionally, he has Dave Fisher, a coach of 18 years. Fisher played for Sarge in 1991, when he was still the team’s assistant coach.
According to Fisher, “He delivers the enthusiasm and that’s what it’s about.” “Coach Sargeant has always had that and it has never changed from the beginning. He keeps bringing that fire every day, and it pays off. He’s benefited from it nicely.
Of course, the players also hold their head coach in high regard.

Defensive lineman Dylan McNutt for the Hilltops adds, “I can’t really put my finger on how he inspires guys. “You just need to get out there and work hard; it will all be worth it on Sunday.”
Does a coach who has worked with more than 2,000 athletes remember each one of them?
Sarge smiles, “Well, you remember the nice ones a little more than the bad ones.”
You remember them all, yet there is a reality there.

At the end of the day, my job is to prod and prod, and whether they are here for one year or five years, we want them to leave as better football players as well as better people beings in the first place. You have to push, work hard, and challenge yourself to do it, and I have no difficulty doing that.

After 25 years, “Sarge,” the head coach of the Saskatoon Hilltops, is still in command.
