After Stephen Gerrard, a legendary member of the Liverpool team, was fired last week, the Aston Villa Football Club announced this evening, Monday, that Spain’s Unai Emery had been chosen to take over as the team’s new technical director.
Emery, 50, signed a contract with Aston Villa after resigning from his role as the head coach of Villarreal Club in the Spanish First Division. Emery will begin working for Arsenal on November 1 after the necessary work visa procedures have been completed.
Following a lacklustre start to the season and a 17th-place finish in the league after 11 games, the Aston Villa team confirmed on Thursday that coach Stephen Gerrard had been fired.
We would like to thank Stephen for his serious effort and devotion and we wish him luck in the future, Aston Villa said in a brief statement posted on his website.
In their encounter last Thursday in the 12th round of the “Premier League,” Aston Villa suffered a three-goal defeat at Fulham. This is his second straight loss and sixth of the current campaign.
