King Charles III sends first set of 100th birthday cards

The King and Queen Consort have sent their first 100th birthday greetings to hundreds of people throughout the UK.
His Majesty has sent birthday greetings to a number of WWII soldiers, including Ruth Park-Pearson, a member of the Women’s Royal Naval Service who was born in 1922.
Park-Pearson celebrated her 100th birthday on October 21 with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

It has been a long-standing custom to send letters from the King or Queen to commemorate notable birthdays and anniversaries.
“The posting of messages to mark significant birthdays and anniversaries is a tradition that dates back to 1917 and the reign of King George V, when those celebrating their 100th birthday or 60th wedding anniversary were sent a telegram of good wishes from His Majesty,” the official UK Royal website said.

More than a million cards were issued throughout Queen Elizabeth II’s reign to commemorate important events in the UK and around the globe.
The King and Queen Consort will compose their congrats letters and accept applications at the Anniversaries Office.
