China protests the visit of German lawmakers to Taiwan

Today, Tuesday, the Chinese government voiced its opposition to the travel of six German parliamentarians to Taiwan.
Peter Hyde of the Free Democratic Party, a Bundestag member who represents Beijing, spearheaded the Beijing Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ appeal for “an urgent endowment for its contact with the separatist forces in favour of independence in Taiwan.”
In a statement, the Ministry pleaded with German lawmakers to uphold the so-called China principle and avoid sending “wrong signals.”

According to the statement, Taiwan is to blame for the rise in regional conflict because “Taiwan is an intrinsic component of Chinese territories.”
However, despite China’s insistence, the exchanges would go on, according to Hong-Le Chang, president of the German Taiwanese Parliamentary Friendship Association.
Beijing’s protest, he declared, is useless. Taiwan is an independent nation. Parliamentary exchange with other countries has something justified. They visit Taiwan to show their support for us.

The six members of the Bundestag’s Human Rights Committee arrived in Taiwan on Sunday for a four-day trip. This is the second time this month that a German parliamentary delegation has visited Taiwan.
They met with a group of Taiwanese legislators from various parties today, Tuesday, while Taiwan President Tsai Enge Wayne received the group on Monday..
