British Defense: Military talks between Moscow and London on the situation in Ukraine

The first deputy of the Russian defence minister and the chief of general staff Valerie Gerasimov spoke on the phone with the British chief of staff, Admiral Tony Radakin, about the situation in Ukraine, the British Ministry of Defense reported today, Monday.
In a statement released on its official website, the ministry claimed that Radakin had reaffirmed London’s ongoing support for Kiev.

The call was made on the initiative of the Russian side, according to the statement, which noted that “the military officials agreed on the importance of maintaining the keeping of open communication channels between the United Kingdom and Russia to manage the risks of miscalculation and facilitate the suspension of escalation.”

This conversation follows a phone call yesterday between British Defense Minister Robert Wallace and his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoyo, as well as a subsequent conversation last night regarding the situation in Ukraine between the foreign ministers of France, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

It is noteworthy that on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that he had begun a military operation against Ukrainian targets with the goal of defending the citizens of the Donbas region. This announcement led many Western and American nations to impose severe economic sanctions against Russia.
