According to a statement from the Pentagon press secretary, Pat Ryder, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin emphasised the significance of increased bilateral contacts with Russia in light of the special military operation in Ukraine.
According to a statement on the Pentagon website, “Defense Minister Lloyd Austin spoke on the phone with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shwigo, who requested that communication continue. The Minister of Defense Austin rejected any justification for the Russian escalation and reaffirmed the importance of continuous communication” amid the Russian military operation in Ukraine.
Earlier today, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Shoyo held his second phone call with his American counterpart since Friday.
The US Secretary of Defense emphasises how crucial it is to keep in touch with Russia.
