The former Treasury Secretary Rishi Sonak is undoubtedly the most likely contender to succeed the outgoing Prime Minister Liz Tarras, according to a report in the British newspaper The Guardian. This is because Boris Johnson withdrew from the fight for the leadership of the Conservative Party.
The newspaper noted on its website that the former prime minister had trouble garnering the support of enough conservative lawmakers, despite the fact that more party leaders had warned that Johnson’s return would cause instability and early elections.
Johnson said in a statement that he had received the support of 102 of his coworkers, with a higher difference with two voices than the necessary limit, but that only roughly 60 of them had publicly expressed their support.
Sonak, on the other hand, received nominations from all party wings and won the support of 150 deputies. There were roughly 27 nominations for the third challenge, Benny Mordont.
Johnson, who has not yet formally begun his campaign, declared he would not stand because he lacked the backing of enough party members in Parliament.
“I think I am in a good position to achieve the victory of the conservatives in 2024 – and I can confirm tonight that I exceeded the very big obstacle of 102 nomination, and I can present my nomination tomorrow. ”

It will now be a race against Sonak to persuade some of the former Johnson followers to vote for her in the final return round against her rival.
It is notable because Sonak’s success with the deputies means that, should Mordont fail to secure more than 100 backers, he will advance directly to Monday’s first round of the tournament.
