Ottawa interim police chief Steve Bell to testify at Emergencies Act inquiry

On Monday, the Public Order Emergency Commission will resume its open hearings, and interim Ottawa police chief Steve Bell is scheduled to give a testimony.
As deputy chief during the “Freedom Convoy” protests that swept through Ottawa in late January, Bell is a seasoned police officer.
He has been the city’s interim chief ever since Peter Sloly resigned in mid-February.
Bell previously said he did not ask the federal government to invoke the Emergencies Act.

Sloly is also scheduled to appear before the panel this week to provide testimony regarding the validity of Ottawa’s use of the act.
Despite the city council election taking place today, Ottawa’s police services board revealed last week that they have chosen a new chief of police who will begin on November 17.

Steve Bell, the acting police chief of Ottawa, will speak before the Emergencies Act hearing.
